For 15 years (3/1988-3/2003), the Antiviral Agents Bulletin was the only periodical specializing in antiviral drug and vaccine development. The Bulletin covered all antiviral therapeutic and prophylactic agents, but the largest portion of news articles, patents, etc., concern HIV/AIDS-related antiviral drugs and vaccines.

Articles in the Antiviral Agents Bulletin described and assessed commercial and scientific developments, treatment advances and trends, patents and technology transfers, federal and regulatory activities, and information resources. Abstracts for all antiviral and virus-related U.S. patents and international patent disclosures were also provided. An annual review issue described the year's major developments and indexed articles by agent, virus/disease and organization. U.S. patents were indexed in another issue.
